Description
A master carver must have created this cameo, someone who could take such a small surface and carve this tableau so skillfully. A goddess dances with her scarf waving in the air accompanied by a putti or Cupid playing a flute, atop a crescent moon!
Marcasites trace the bottom of the moon and the sides and bottom are decorated with silver designs. Locking C-clasp, pin works well. The polish on the shell is gorgeous.
Marked only 830. 830 is a mark used mostly by Scandinavian countries. Perhaps the cameo was brought loose from Italy and framed there? Or maybe one of the 800 silver countries (Italy, Germany, many more) put a bit more silver into this work and marked it accordingly? It’s a jewelry mystery!
Measures 1 1/8″ wide by 1″ high. Amazing piece.
